Before the Nuptial Agreement is the Siraman or Bathing Ceremony. Siraman means to take a bath. The Siraman in the wedding ritual is meant to clean the couple, their bodies as well as their souls. The Siraman ceremony usually takes place one day prior to the Ijab (religious ceremony) and other traditional ceremonies.

The place of the Siraman is the family bathroom or in a place specially designed for the purpose. Nowdays the second alternative is more common.

The people who should bath the couple are the parents, close family members and elderly distinguished women who are selected due to their good moral behaviour.

The photos below depict the bathing ceremony for Steven and Desy.
